Shanti Bhavan 2
Nearly three decades later, Shanti Bhavan has grown. In 2024, we opened our second school, expanding our reach and doubling the number of children we can support.
Watch VideoSabari was born into the Dhobi community, where families survive by washing and ironing clothes, and children are expected to inherit the same work. At four years old, his father brought him to Shanti Bhavan, and his future shifted.
Watch VideoOur mission is to provide children from India’s most marginalized communities with free, long-term support, including education, healthcare, meals, housing, mentorship, and guidance from early childhood through career launch.

Dignity is the difference between getting through the day and believing the future can be better. Keerthika’s video shows her life at home and at Shanti Bhavan, and the hope her parents feel because she’s safe, supported, and learning.
Watch VideoShanti Bhavan goes beyond education. We provide a safe home and long-term support so children can grow into healthy, capable adults. Our commitment spans preschool through college and the start of a career. Here’s what each child receives:
DonateShanti Bhavan opened in 1997 under the leadership of Dr. Abraham George, welcoming its first class of 48 children — 24 girls and 24 boys. Located ninety minutes from Bangalore in Tamil Nadu, India, our beautiful campus hosts academic buildings, dormitories, a canteen, a medical clinic, practice fields, a playground, nature trails, a farm, and much more.

Impact
Born into poverty, the world assumed Vijay's future would mirror his parents’—limited opportunities, low expectations, and no room for ambition.
But by the time he turned 23, he:
Graduated from high school
Studied at one of the top colleges in Bangalore
Got a job earning more than his parents had in their lifetime
Paid off his family debt
Today, he’s finishing up his master’s at UC Berkeley.
Donate to Break the Cycle
Prathibha’s parents are farmers, and feeding and educating two daughters was a daily struggle. With support from Shanti Bhavan, she finished high school, attended a top university in Bangalore, earned an MBA, and is now building a career in technology and business.
Today, her work focuses on social impact: she helps organizations use better systems and digital tools to reach more people, solve real problems, and create lasting change.
Support Shanti BhavanThe team at Shanti Bhavan is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty. Teachers, housemothers, counselors, medical staff, and mentors work tirelessly every day to make sure our children have what they need to succeed — from education and healthcare to meals, mentorship, and guidance.
This work is strengthened by international chapters in Canada, the UK, Australia, and Germany, which support fundraising and community engagement.
