Graduation day at Christ University
If you watched Daughters of Destiny, you might remember Thenmozhi. She was the bubbly little one, the life of the party, and the girl who always said exactly what she thought. That energy came with a stubborn streak, and together they carried her through some of the harder moments of her life.
Over four episodes, you watched her grow up on campus, moving between life at Shanti Bhavan and life in her village. It has been nine years since Daughters of Destiny was released, and I wanted to share where Thenmozhi is now.
After three years at Christ University, Thenmozhi has graduated and is facing a question with no easy answer: How do you start a career while supporting your mother and two siblings?
To work through it, she went home. Not to the house she was born into, but to Shanti Bhavan, the home she had grown up in since she was 4 years old—many of the people who know her best are still there, and graduating never meant leaving them behind.
Thenmozhi with our younger children
As soon as she arrived, the younger children crowded around her with excitement. They took her hand and pulled her toward all the new things they wanted her to see. At lunch, she joined a table full of children just beginning the road she had already walked. Around campus, she found the aunties who helped raise her and staff members who had known her since she was a little girl.
Thenmozhi understands that the job she chooses will shape more than her own future. The salary it offers will affect how she can support the people she loves while building a life and career of her own.
During our conversation, she spoke candidly about weighing both and more. At Shanti Bhavan, she can say aloud what she has been considering privately, and ultimately decide for herself.
Thenmozhi is no longer the playful four-year-old who arrived on campus or the girl you met on screen. She is a college graduate asking hard questions about work, family, and the life she wants to build. Her family at Shanti Bhavan is not here to map the path. We are here to make sure she does not have to walk it alone.
When we spoke, Thenmozhi was searching for a job that would mark the beginning of her career. Since then, she has joined a multinational real estate company, bringing with her an education she worked hard for and the same drive that has carried her this far. She is determined to support her family while creating a future of her own. Wherever her path leads, she knows she can return to Shanti Bhavan when she needs guidance.
I invite you to watch our full conversation and hear directly from Thenmozhi about where she is today.
